{"id":284,"date":"2019-03-04T16:47:03","date_gmt":"2019-03-04T16:47:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/cewl-ip\/?p=284"},"modified":"2019-04-11T16:52:40","modified_gmt":"2019-04-11T15:52:40","slug":"cewl-plays-host-to-chinese-exchange-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/2019\/03\/04\/cewl-plays-host-to-chinese-exchange-students\/","title":{"rendered":"CEWL plays host to Chinese Exchange students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">CEWL recently hosted two students, Fang Di and He Xueqi, who are undergraduates studying to teach Chinese to speakers of other languages at\u00a0Xi&#8217;an KeDaGaoXin University China (KDGX).<\/p>\n<p><em>This was the first time we have hosted exchange students through an exchange programme which was established between CEWL and KDGX this year.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Fang Di and Xueqi observed credit and non-credit bearing Mandarin language classes and led the\u00a0 speaking and writing workshops to help students to improve their Mandarin language skills. They also attended various English Language and Academic Skills\u00a0 classes to improve their English and were made welcome by the teachers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They\u00a0 worked very hard to design and deliver\u00a0 the following Chinese language and culture workshops:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Chinese Language and Culture Taster Session for Sheldwich Primary School, near Faversham<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Chinese Music and Tai Chi<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Calligraphy<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>All of the sessions were successful and well-received.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-293\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/cewl-ip\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190122_120133-culture-1-300x178.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"178\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190122_120133-culture-1-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190122_120133-culture-1-768x456.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190122_120133-culture-1.jpg 834w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Above all, Fang Di and\u00a0 He Xueqi appreciated the invaluable opportunity to immerse themselves in\u00a0 British culture and university life, and gained first-hand experience of the culture by talking to and making friends with students at Kent.<\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-299 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/cewl-ip\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190124_152857-calligraphy-300x164.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190124_152857-calligraphy-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190124_152857-calligraphy-768x419.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2019\/03\/IMG_20190124_152857-calligraphy.jpg 911w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Two Kent students &#8211;\u00a0 Jason and Caroline &#8211;\u00a0 who are currently taking our Mandarin modules, will be going to KDGX in Xi\u2019an, China for four weeks during this Easter holidays. We are sure they will enjoy everything KDGX and the historical city Xi\u2019an offer them.
