{"id":1396,"date":"2023-06-13T13:08:45","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T12:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/international-programmes\/?p=1396"},"modified":"2024-10-29T10:24:23","modified_gmt":"2024-10-29T10:24:23","slug":"csi-kent-students-visit-from-dubai-to-learn-about-forensic-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/2023\/06\/13\/csi-kent-students-visit-from-dubai-to-learn-about-forensic-science\/","title":{"rendered":"CSI: Kent &#8211; Students Visit from Dubai to Learn about Forensic Science"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>University of Kent Global and Lifelong Learning was delighted to welcome students from Amity University, Dubai for a short course in Forensic Science from the 9th to the 20th May 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Their course focused on the practical aspects of Forensic Science, including crime scene photography, building a biological profile from skeletal remains in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/hospitality\/virtual-tours\/student\/?\/canterbury\/facilities\/school-of-anthropology-and-conservation\">Human Osteology Lab<\/a>, developing physical evidence in fingerprints and fibres, and forensic entomology (the study of insects associated with crimes).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1405\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1405\" style=\"width: 533px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1405\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/06\/RA_XVySo.jpeg\" alt=\"A table covered in human remains \" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1405\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The bone lab at University of Kent<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Students also visited University of Kent&#8217;s crime scene facility to get experience of evidence recording and preservation. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/chemistry-forensic-science\/facilities#practical-experience\">crime scene house<\/a> can be set up to simulate all kinds of crime scenarios, such as burglary and suspicious death.<\/p>\n<p>The realistic scenarios offered by the crime scene house help students to prepare for the diverse nature of crime scenes they may encounter in future careers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1402\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1402\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1402\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/06\/fQ6tDjuk.jpeg\" alt=\"Amity students pose in their biohazard suits in the crime scene facility garden\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1402\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amity students at the Crime Scene Facility<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The visiting students also enjoyed a range of academic lectures during their course, delivered by specialists in the department and across the University.<\/p>\n<p>These included talks on Death and Decomposition and Forensic Entomology with Dr Devin Finaughty and a talk on Advances in Forensic DNA with Dr Robert Green.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1397\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1397\" style=\"width: 375px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1397\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/06\/2E6-Jrhk.jpeg\" alt=\"A student in a forensic lab at University of Kent\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1397\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Visiting students participated in various workshops during their course<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>During their stay at Kent, visiting Amity students also enjoyed a number of cultural trips, including visits to Canterbury cathedral and Dover Castle, an optional trip to nearby Whitstable, a boat tour on the River Stour, and a day trip to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/lsm\/centre-for-education\/museums\/gordon-museum\">Gordon Museum of Patholog<\/a>y at King&#8217;s College in London.<\/p>\n<p>Students were also treated to a traditional British afternoon tea to celebrate the end of the course!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1408\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1408\" style=\"width: 533px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1408\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/files\/2023\/06\/sgb1ORJU.jpeg\" alt=\"Amity students pose together on the steps of the Ingram building\" width=\"533\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1408\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amity University, Dubai visiting students<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>At Kent, we offer faculty-led short courses and summer schools like this one, tailored directly to the needs of your institution&#8217;s students and staff.
