{"id":1003,"date":"2023-02-07T11:24:49","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T11:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/international-programmes\/?p=1003"},"modified":"2023-02-07T12:04:29","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T12:04:29","slug":"lgbt-history-month-at-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/global-learning\/2023\/02\/07\/lgbt-history-month-at-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"LGBT+ History Month at Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">LGBT+ History Month celebrates LGBT+ lives, voices and experiences in all of their diversity. <\/p>\n<p>LGBT+ (sometimes also termed LGBTQ+ or LGBTQIA2) stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (the &#8216;q&#8217; stands for &#8216;queer&#8217; or &#8216;questioning&#8217;, the &#8216;i&#8217; for &#8216;intersex&#8217;, the &#8216;a&#8217; for &#8216;asexual&#8217;, the &#8216;2&#8217; for &#8216;Two-Spirit&#8217;, and the + for a range of identities, including non-binary and pansexual).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student\/lgbtq-history-month\">LGBT+ History Month<\/a> increases the visibility of the LGBT+ community, raising awareness of LGBT+ history, lives, and experiences, and working to promote the welfare of those within the LGBT+ community.<\/p>\n<p>It takes place every February across the UK, providing space to understand the various struggles that members of the LGBT+ community have faced, both historically and in the present, and working towards future change.<\/p>\n<p>At University of Kent, we have a whole host of events and activities taking place throughout February. Here&#8217;s our handy guide to LGBT+ History Month events!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Resources<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>LGBTQ+ History Month Books and Resources \u2013 1 Feb\u201328 Feb, Templeman Library<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/rl.talis.com\/3\/kent\/lists\/DE8CD6FA-2CF4-0ABD-4FFD-869957D8BCA5.html?lang=en&amp;login=1\">Templeman Library\u2019s resource list of books<\/a>, e-books, podcasts, films and events on topics relating to LGBTQ+ life and experience. Books from the list will be displayed in the Library Welcome Hall and Cafe and are available to browse and borrow.
