CEWL was delighted to host a group of staff from I-SITE Université Lille Nord-Europe for a two-week English for Work and Business course at the beginning of July.
We are a group of 20 French staff members (researchers, teachers and administrators) from the Hauts-de-France region in northern France. The University of Kent welcomed us for an immersive stay during the first two weeks of July 2019. The course had a double goal: obviously improving our level in English, but also networking with our counterparts at the University of Kent in order to share experience and knowledge, and hopefully to initiate new projects.
On 4th of July, our group and about 15 staff members of the University of Kent shared a typical afternoon tea in the CEWL atrium. After four days of classes, the conversations were going well and the atmosphere was professional, but relaxed. We have to say that the buffet was particularly appreciated! This informal meeting was a key event of the first week and enabled us to feel more confident and to make new professional relationships.
No doubt many future collaborations will come from this unusual meeting!
