19 July 2018 marked the end of our intensive 5-week CELTA course, with our trainees successfully qualifying as English Language Teachers, and one of our members of staff completing their CELTA Assistant Course Tutor (ACT) training.
A real bonus of running our CELTA course is that it is also an opportunity to offer free English language classes to international students/staff at the University of Kent and members of the community who often would not have access to English study. The free classes offered at both lower and higher levels ran at full capacity for the first time this year, reflecting both the strong demand for free study and the quality of our trainee teachers. The marketing and administration for these was also at its highest standard.
English in Action and Stafford House, two local employers, joined us again at the end of the course to give talks to our trainees about their companies and the work they offer. CELTA is an excellent way of enhancing your employability and one of the most globally recognised qualifications for teaching English to speakers of other languages, which means our trainees can apply for teaching posts either overseas or in the UK as soon as they are qualified. Our contacts and experience in the field significantly help trainees in finding immediate work. CELTA is regarded by employers as providing sound initial training and a strong basis from which to develop as a teacher of English, and is a great way to develop both intercultural and employability skills and helping Kent graduates make an impact both at home and abroad.
