{"id":1576,"date":"2023-02-15T09:20:49","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T09:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/klsemployability\/?page_id=1576"},"modified":"2023-02-15T11:38:05","modified_gmt":"2023-02-15T11:38:05","slug":"vacation-schemes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/getintolaw\/vacation-schemes\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8211;   Vacation schemes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>VIRTUAL VACATION SCHEMES<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>During 2020 and 2021 many vacation schemes were cancelled, postponed or moved on-line.\u00a0 Most have now moved back to in-office based schemes.\u00a0 \u00a0However, some firms kept their virtual schemes in 2022 and may continue to do so for economic and environmental reasons.\u00a0 You should not dismiss such an opportunity if you see them taking place &#8211; they are still real VS&#8217;!.\u00a0 There&#8217;s some great advice on the Law &amp; Broader You Tube Channel here &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9dGSA7ZMWHo&amp;feature=push-sd&amp;attr_tag=c-bmrFv83TJfbih5%3A6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9dGSA7ZMWHo&amp;feature=push-sd&amp;attr_tag=c-bmrFv83TJfbih5%3A6\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/a>This also includes a free template to record your learning and skills development whilst on a VS.<\/p>\n<p>______________________________<\/p>\n<p>Most large firms and many mid-size and regional firms offer vacation schemes.\u00a0 A vacation scheme is a formal period of work experience with a law firm that offers Training Contracts.\u00a0 The application process is rigorous as the firm <em>IS<\/em> looking for their future trainees.\u00a0 It is crucial to know that they do not offer vacation schemes just for your benefit &#8211; it is essentially a period of assessment whereby they are finding out if you are a good &#8216;fit&#8217; for the firm and you should be finding out if you like them\/they &#8216;fit&#8217; with them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What will I do on a vac scheme?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chambersstudent.co.uk\/law-firms\/vacation-schemes\/what-is-a-vac-scheme\"><u><span style=\"color: #0066cc\"><strong>What is a vac scheme?<\/strong><\/span><\/u><\/a> Read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chambersstudent.co.uk\/law-firms\/vacation-schemes\/what-is-a-vac-scheme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this feature<\/a> if you don&#8217;t know yet what the vac scheme experience entails. Firms will expect you to know when you apply.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activities may include<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>workshops to find out more about the firm<\/li>\n<li>networking with other applicants and solicitors \/ partners at the firm<\/li>\n<li>research tasks<\/li>\n<li>planning and executing a group project<\/li>\n<li>mock transactions<\/li>\n<li>doing a project in the local community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>When to apply<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most vacation schemes are open to penultimate-year undergraduate students and above. This is one of a few firms in the UK to offer full training as a Scrivener Notary (a lawyer-linguist).
