The principle aim is to enhance the public&#8217;s access to law and justice in T&amp;T in the hope that users will learn about the laws which govern them along with the corresponding rights and\/or obligations and therefore have the knowledge and ability to deal with legal issues which they encounter in their daily lives<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The organisation is presently unincorporated and online only.<\/div>\n<div>Take a look at the type of issues being dealt with on their website and Instagram pages:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.communitylawtt.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"0\">www.communitylawtt.org<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/communitylawtt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"1\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/communitylawtt\/<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>The opportunity<\/b><\/div>\n<div>If you are motivated by social justice, education and\/or improving access to law and human rights this pro bono opportunity may be for you.<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>They are looking for someone to contribute to the project by researching different areas of law and explaining them in a conversational and acceible way &#8211; shedding the unwieldy legal jargon.\u00a0 Your work will be published &#8211; a great opportunity for future lawyers, academics and many other careers.<\/li>\n<li>There is no time commitment requirement.<\/li>\n<li>This work can be done remotely as the current set-up is online only.\u00a0 \u00a0However, there may be future scope for a longer period of work experience in T&amp;T.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><b>Applicant Criteria:<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Open to <strong>stage 2<\/strong> and <strong>3 law students from the Caribbean.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is desirable that you have an interest in social justice, education, and improving access to the law and human rights.<\/li>\n<li>A grasp of how the law works and familiarity with core concepts is essential<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find the full details and application process on our Moodle page.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Citizens Advice Bureau<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p class=\"first-paragraph\">The CAB aims to provide the advice people need for the problems they face and improve the policies and practices that affect people&#8217;s lives.\u00a0 It is\u00a0free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on their rights and responsibilities.\u00a0 This is a volunteering position which will require dedication and commitment (there&#8217;s training to undertake) so apply early in your degree.\u00a0\u00a0 Find out more here\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensadvice.org.uk\/about-us\/support-us\/volunteering\/\">https:\/\/www.citizensadvice.org.uk\/about-us\/support-us\/volunteering\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Appropriate Adult<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.appropriateadult.org.uk\/\"><u>Appropriate Adults<\/u><\/a> achieve a fairer justice system by safeguarding the welfare and rights of children and vulnerable adults detained or interviewed by police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To find out more and to find a network in your area see the website of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appropriateadult.org.uk\/\"><u>National Appropriate Adult Network.<\/u><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 To volunteer in Kent see the <a href=\"http:\/\/ylf.org.uk\/what-we-do\/advocacy-and-childrens-rights\/\"><u>Young Lives Foundation website<\/u><\/a> (you will also find other types of volunteering on this website which may be of interest).<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><strong>Interventions Alliance\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This is a community rehabilitation company based in Kent, Surrey and Sussex who work with offenders.\u00a0 They deliver a range of rehabilitation services to people who are on licence or a community order to reintegrate back into their communities to make a positive contribution. This could be:\u00a0 Supporting a participant to improve their overall emotional wellbeing; Mentoring them in an effective way that assists them in building new social networks that can support desistance from offending; Assisting individuals with the skills and confidence to find and manage their homes; and Helping a person on the path to employment by developing the right skills and acquiring the right training. They believe that young people should have access to the legal profession as a career.
