The Future Human leadership team facilitated a second<\/span> sandpit event on May 4<\/span><\/span>th & <\/span><\/span>5<\/span><\/span>th targeted at\u00a0 early and mid-career academic colleagues. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>14<\/span> academics attended fro<\/span>m across <\/span>range of Schools<\/span>– Sports and Exercise Science<\/span>, Physics, F<\/span>ilm & Media<\/span>, History, Education, SSPSSR, <\/span>Anthropology, Politics, Enginee<\/span>ring and Music. Over the two days four projects emerged from discussions and were developed in to outline proposals to pitch <\/span>for the <\/span>small grant funding from the Future Human SRT.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Yes again our colleagues rose to the challenge of developing innovative and multidisciplinary projects. The leadership team decided to offer funding to all four projects as all were of an excellent standard and posed interesting research questions and ideas. The projects are summarised below.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Quantum Supremacy:<\/strong> Will investigate what \u2018quantum supremacy\u2019 means, and what it might achieve in the future<\/span>;<\/span> utopia, apocalypse or something less dramatic? Academics involved:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dr Mark Hill https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/social-policy-sociology-social-research\/people\/3842\/hill-mark-j<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Dr Ben Turner https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics-international-relations\/people\/2599\/turner-ben<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Dr Bruno Tomasello https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/physics-astronomy\/people\/3803\/tomasello-bruno<\/a><\/p>\r\n

In Tune:<\/strong> Will explore the potential of a novel form of visual biofeedback, together with a set of psychological strategies, to enhance embodied awareness, reduce chronic pain and promote feeling \u2018in tune\u2019 for elite sports professionals and specialist musicians. Academics involved:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Human movement: Past, Present and Future:<\/strong> This project will take a unique and reflexive look at human movement, by exploring how far our movements are affected by our visual perceptions of them; \u201cDo we move differently when we look at the movement?<\/span>\u201d. Academics involved:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dr Chris Dunmore\u00a0https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/anthropology-conservation\/people\/2776\/dunmore-christopher-james<\/a><\/p>\r\n

Controlling the Reproductive Body in the Past, Present and Future:<\/strong> Will aim to recover the voices, stories, histories, and physiologies of a diversity of individuals who <\/span>have been controlled<\/span> or have the potential to be controlled through their reproductive bodies. Academics involved:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n
