{"id":2300,"date":"2022-02-28T14:38:04","date_gmt":"2022-02-28T14:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/finance-news\/?p=2300"},"modified":"2022-02-28T14:38:04","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T14:38:04","slug":"year-end-spending-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/finance-news\/2022\/02\/28\/year-end-spending-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Year End Spending Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Dear colleagues,<br \/><br \/>As we near the end of our financial year (31 July 2022), colleagues are reminded of the continued need to limit our non-pay spend. <br \/><br \/>While the outlook is much brighter as Covid-19 restrictions gradually relax and we move closer to a return to \u201cbusiness as usual\u201d, the University continues to work within extremely challenging financial conditions. <br \/><br \/>We can all take steps to help the University through this challenging period and budget-holders in particular have a critical role to play through continuing to minimise spend. <br \/><br \/>Most urgently, we need your support in ensuring we significantly reduce end-of-year outlay. In previous years, we have seen an increase of up to \u00a35m in spending as budget-end nears. This cannot\u202fhappen this year\u202fand\u202ftherefore any unspent budget for 21\/22 must only be used\u202fwhere\u202fabsolutely essential.\u202f\u202f <br \/><br \/>I appreciate you will continue to get\u202fpurchasing and expenditure\u202frequests from within your Division or Department and encourage you to share this email with staff as required to help respond to these.\u202f <br \/><br \/>To help with our planning, it would be appreciated if you\u202fcould\u202fnotify our Procurement team\u202fof any significant essential spend that needs to be incurred between now and year-end, so that we can discuss this in good time.
