{"id":1972,"date":"2020-09-01T12:19:32","date_gmt":"2020-09-01T11:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/finance-news\/?p=1972"},"modified":"2020-09-01T12:19:32","modified_gmt":"2020-09-01T11:19:32","slug":"restrictions-on-travel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/finance-news\/2020\/09\/01\/restrictions-on-travel\/","title":{"rendered":"Restrictions on Travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Restrictions on travel for University purposes are still in effect and have not been relaxed.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst the\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus#foreign--commonwealth-office-fco-travel-advice\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus#foreign--commonwealth-office-fco-travel-advice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO)<\/a>\u00a0may have relaxed restrictions on travel from 4 July 2020, the University still regards any and all international travel \u2013 <em>even to countries that have relaxed travel restrictions by the FCO<\/em> \u2013 as high risk and not to be booked where at all possible or avoidable. This is particularly relevant to undergraduate and PGT students.<\/p>\n<p>If staff or PGR students have external funding for essential travel, they should be able to travel as long as the\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus#foreign--commonwealth-office-fco-travel-advice\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus#foreign--commonwealth-office-fco-travel-advice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FCO<\/a>\u00a0is not advising against travel, the trip is supported by a completed risk assessment and is insured through Kent\u2019s Insurance Office. Staff should be aware that\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus#foreign--commonwealth-office-fco-travel-advice\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/travel-advice-novel-coronavirus#foreign--commonwealth-office-fco-travel-advice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FCO guidance<\/a>\u00a0is liable to change at very short notice.<\/p>\n<p>There may be some internally funded travel needed to prepare some grant applications with other universities. This should be at the discretion of the Divisions.<\/p>\n<p>The process for staff and PGR students should follow when booking essential travel is:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Review the University\u2019s\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/finance-staff\/procurement\/index.html?tab=policies-and-procedures\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/finance-staff\/procurement\/index.html?tab=policies-and-procedures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">updated\u00a0Travel Policy<\/a>\u00a0and complete the enclosed Travel Exceptions form\u00a0confirming the essential nature of travel and that external funding is available<\/li>\n<li>Complete the relevant online\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/safety\/hs\/pages\/travel-work-overseas\/travel-work-overseas.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/safety\/hs\/pages\/travel-work-overseas\/travel-work-overseas.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Overseas Travel Risk Assessment form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Register for the University\u2019s travel insurance using the form\u00a0<a title=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/finance-staff\/services\/insurance\/travelstaff\/index.html\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/finance-staff\/services\/insurance\/travelstaff\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It is not recommended that you book travel using any\u00a0<strong>personal funds<\/strong>\u00a0as this is at your own risk and any expense claims may not be authorised if you travel contrary to University advice.<\/p>\n<p>This travel advice is being reviewed on a regular basis.
