{"id":108,"date":"2016-07-08T09:00:52","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T09:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/estates-news\/?p=108"},"modified":"2020-02-13T14:54:11","modified_gmt":"2020-02-13T14:54:11","slug":"british-heart-foundation-and-fareshare-donations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/estates-news\/2016\/07\/08\/british-heart-foundation-and-fareshare-donations\/","title":{"rendered":"British Heart Foundation and FareShare Donations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u00a0the Waste and Recycling Team\u00a0decided to introduce three additional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhf.org.uk\/?gclid=CL_EuZmZ3M0CFW8o0wodtl4PfA\">British Heart Foundation<\/a> donation banks to those currently located on campus.\u00a0 It was thought donations\u00a0would increase\u00a0from last year. Donation banks were available at Parkwood Study Hub, Stock Court, Marlowe\/Jarman, Keynes College, Tyler Court, Darwin Houses and Woolfe (the additional sites were Keynes, Stock Court and Marlowe\/Jarman).<\/p>\n<p>In June 2015, 2.272 tonnes of items were donated to the British Heart Foundation,\u00a0in\u00a0June 2016, 5.104 tonnes of items were donated,\u00a0 <strong>more than double last year&#8217;s figure!<\/strong> Incredibly the amount\u00a0 donated between the 13<sup>th<\/sup> and 18<sup>th<\/sup> of June during the\u00a0&#8216;clear out&#8217; period was 3.728 tonnes alone. This means that in\u00a0one week we donated more than the whole of\u00a0 June in the previous year!<\/p>\n<p>This year also saw the introduction of unused food donations, working together with the charity <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fareshare.org.uk\/?gclid=CIrq8OaV2s0CFcFAGwod6KoLwQ\">FareShare. <\/a>\u00a0Two dates were planned for students to drop off their unused food during the last week of term (14<sup>th<\/sup> and 17<sup>th<\/sup> of June) students were asked to donate food such as tinned goods, pasta, rice, sauces, cereal, tea, coffee etc.\u00a0 The total weight of food donated over the two days equalled 316.48 kilos. The donations are sorted at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fareshare.org.uk\/regional-centres\/kent\/\">FareShare\u00a0Ashford<\/a> warehouse and food boxes created for those in need. A box will feed a family of\u00a0four for\u00a0five days.\u00a0 The donations from the university created\u00a016 boxes, enough to\u00a0feed 64 people for 5 days!
