{"id":926,"date":"2015-08-28T16:49:49","date_gmt":"2015-08-28T15:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/?p=926"},"modified":"2017-04-20T12:37:27","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T11:37:27","slug":"school-of-english-50th-festival-lecture-and-reception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/2015\/08\/28\/school-of-english-50th-festival-lecture-and-reception\/","title":{"rendered":"School of English 50th Festival lecture and reception"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of English is hosting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/events\/allevents.html?eid=13552&amp;view_by=month&amp;date=20150928&amp;category=&amp;tag=\">lecture and drinks reception<\/a> as part of the University of Kent&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/50\/celebrate\/festival\/index.html\">50<sup>th<\/sup> Festival<\/a> on Saturday 5 September.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/people\/profiles\/edmond.html\">Rod Edmond,<\/a> Emeritus Professor of English, will be giving a paper entitled &#8216;&#8221;On Margate Sands &#8230;&#8221;: Writers and Painters in Thanet&#8217; at 2pm in Rutherford Lecture Theatre 1. The event will be followed by a drinks reception in the Rutherford Cameron Gardens. All are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture and reception also form part of the School of English&#8217;s own 50<sup>th<\/sup> celebrations. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/festivalofenglish\/index.html\">The Festival of English<\/a>, which has been running throughout 2015, has already seen a whole host of literary events including a performance of the opera <em>Tokaido Road,<\/em> written by Senior Creative Writing Lecturer Nancy Gaffield, and lectures on Chaucer, Marlowe and Austen which formed part of an open lecture series highlighting Canterbury and Kent&#8217;s prominent literary figures. The final events of the Festival include a &#8216;read-a-thon&#8217; taking place at venues around Canterbury and lectures on Dickens and Woolf.
