{"id":912,"date":"2015-07-30T12:04:43","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T11:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/?p=912"},"modified":"2017-04-20T12:37:47","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T11:37:47","slug":"scarlett-thomas-publishes-tenth-novel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/2015\/07\/30\/scarlett-thomas-publishes-tenth-novel\/","title":{"rendered":"Scarlett Thomas publishes tenth novel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scarlett Thomas (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/staff\/thomas.html\">Reader in Creative Writing<\/a> in the School of English) published her most recent novel, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.canongate.tv\/the-seed-collectors-hardback.html\">The Seed Collectors<\/a>, <\/em>with Canongate earlier this month. The novel, which is described as &#8216;a complex and fiercely contemporary tale of inheritance, enlightenment, life, death, desire and family trees&#8217;, has been warmly received by the national press. Neil Gaiman described the novel as \u201centrancing\u201d, &#8220;sharply observed&#8221; and &#8220;one of the sharpest fantasies&#8221; he has encountered, whilst Peter Carty, writing in <em>The Independent, <\/em>commented that the novel \u201cfizzes with ideas and insights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate creative writing modules in the School of English and supervises a number of PhD projects, all of which are novels. Other recent publications include <em>Monkeys with Typewriters<\/em>, <em>Our Tragic Universe<\/em> and <em>The End of Mr. Y<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Scarlett will be appearing alongside fellow novelist Reif Larsen at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edbookfest.co.uk\/the-festival\/whats-on\/reif-larsen-scarlett-thomas\">Edinburgh International Book Festival<\/a> on Friday 28 August 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scarlett Thomas (Reader in Creative Writing in the School of English) published her most recent novel, The Seed Collectors, with Canongate earlier this month.
