{"id":707,"date":"2014-06-03T16:17:09","date_gmt":"2014-06-03T15:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/?p=707"},"modified":"2017-04-20T12:48:55","modified_gmt":"2017-04-20T11:48:55","slug":"book-launch-to-celebrate-new-poetry-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/2014\/06\/03\/book-launch-to-celebrate-new-poetry-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"Book launch to celebrate new poetry collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 20 May the School of English hosted a book launch to celebrate the publication of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/staff\/gaffield.html\">Nancy Gaffield&#8217;s <\/a>most recent collection of poetry <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shearsman.com\/ws-shop\/category\/1238-gaffield-nancy\/product\/4639-nancy-gaffield---continental-drift\"><i>Continental Drift<\/i><\/a><i>. <\/i>Attended by friends, family and colleagues from across the university, the celebration featured an introduction from friend and colleague Patricia Debney and a reading of several of the poems from the collection.<\/p>\n<p>The collection (published by Shearsman Books) is about place and about the attachments and appropriations that shape our relationship with the land. <i>Continental Drift<\/i> is Nancy Gaffield&#8217;s second collection.<i> Tokaido Road<\/i>, published in 2011, won the Aldeburgh First Collection Prize. Nancy has recently worked with composer Nicola LeFanu to adapt the Tokaido Road poems into a libretto. The opera, featuring Okeanos Ensemble, will be premiered at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cheltenhamfestivals.com\/music\/whats-on\/2014\/tokaido-road\/\">Cheltenham Festival<\/a> in July.
