{"id":4026,"date":"2022-02-14T15:18:46","date_gmt":"2022-02-14T15:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/?p=4026"},"modified":"2022-02-14T16:04:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-14T16:04:03","slug":"school-of-english-proud-to-sponsor-2022-republic-of-consciousness-literary-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/2022\/02\/14\/school-of-english-proud-to-sponsor-2022-republic-of-consciousness-literary-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"School of English proud to sponsor 2022 Republic of Consciousness Literary Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\">School of English<\/a>\u00a0is proud to be a sponsor of\u00a0this year&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.republicofconsciousness.com\">Republic of Consciousness\u00a0<\/a>Literary Prize.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its sixth year, the Prize is\u00a0open to works of fiction by a single author published by a small press in the UK and Ireland with five or fewer full-time employees or equivalent. It is\u00a0the only prize in the UK that welcomes long form, short form, English language and translated fiction.\u00a0Over the past five years the Prize has recognised 38 small presses from 13 towns and cities in the UK and Ireland, and awarded over \u00a360,000 in prize-money to publishers and authors in that time. Last year half of the \u00a320,000 prize fund was awarded to the long list, with the other half distributed among the shortlist \u2013 a literary prize first.<\/p>\n<p>The longlist will be announced soon, with the shortlist announced in mid-March and the winner in\u00a0April.<\/p>\n<p>Amy Sackville, Senior Lecturer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/english\/about\/creative-writing\">Creative Writing<\/a> and Deputy Head of School, said: \u2018Creative Writing at Kent is all about unique, original voices and we have long-standing relationships with a number of small presses, so the\u00a0Republic of Consciousness Literary Prize is an initiative we\u2019re really pleased to be supporting.\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0School of English\u00a0is proud to be a sponsor of\u00a0this year&#8217;s\u00a0Republic of Consciousness\u00a0Literary Prize.
