The School of English are excited to invite you to their first taster event of the year, ‘Shakespeare’s Playhouses: How Shakespeare’s comedies and tragedies were staged’, with Dr Callan Davies on Thursday 26 November at 17.00 via Zoom.<\/p>\n
What was it like to see a Shakespeare play in the 1590s? How did it look, smell, and sound? What snacks could you buy at intermission? Who checked your ticket at the door? How can all this help you with your A-Level exam?<\/p>\n
Join Dr Callan Davies to find out<\/a>. Dr Davies is an expert on Shakespearean theatre, whose research combines literary analysis, archaeological evidence, innovative digital methods and experimental restagings. He will take you back to the 1590s, so you can see what it was like to see a Shakespeare play in the age of Shakespeare himself. Looking at Othello and A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream in particular, he will then explain how understanding Shakespeare\u2019s playhouses can help you understand Shakespeare\u2019s plays. Whichever play you are studying for A-Level, the session will be valuable for you.<\/p>\n
