Part symposium, part study day, part celebration of the first recognisably modern women\u2019s magazine, this event will reflect on and explore the diverse content, broad readership and multiple legacies of this influential periodical.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/files\/2020\/01\/9781911624400RGB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2897 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/files\/2020\/01\/9781911624400RGB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/files\/2020\/01\/9781911624400RGB.jpg 1118w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/files\/2020\/01\/9781911624400RGB-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/files\/2020\/01\/9781911624400RGB-768x973.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/english-news\/files\/2020\/01\/9781911624400RGB-808x1024.jpg 808w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a>Day one will host a programme of talks on the magazine and a keynote lecture. Day two focuses on fashion, material culture and the <em>Lady\u2019s Magazine<\/em> through a combined offering of academic talks and hands-on workshops. After a panel and morning keynote lecture, participants can view copies of the magazine and other items of interest in the Templeman Library\u2019s Special Collections and Archives. They can also take part in an embroidery workshop led by Alison Larkin using one of the magazine\u2019s original patterns (materials are provided and no prior skill is necessary!).
