A critical discussion about Alex Katz will be led by Professor David at the Turner Contemporary Foyle Rooms on Thursday 6pm on 1st November 2012. Admission is \u00a35\/\u00a34 concessions.<\/p>\n
Professor Herd will discuss Alex Katz and the poetry of the New York School, alongside Modern Painters<\/em> co-founder, Karen Wright. The talk, entitled Painter Among Poets<\/a>,<\/em> coincides with the exhibition, Alex Katz: Give Me Tomorrow<\/a><\/em>, which is on display at the Turner Contemporary until 20th January 2013.<\/p>\n In the late 1950s, Alex Katz made New York\u2019s poets, dancers, writers and artists the subjects of many of his paintings. He read, and collaborated with, the poets of the New York School, including Frank O\u2019Hara, John Ashbery and James Schuyler.<\/p>\n David Herd will also be joined by colleagues and graduate students from the Centre for Modern Poetry<\/a> and Centre for Creative Writing<\/a> for lunchtime readings at the museum next week to celebrate the exhibition. The free lunchtime readings of Frank O\u2019Hara\u2019s Lunch Poems<\/em> will take place in the museum galleries from 30th<\/sup> October to 2nd<\/sup> November at 12pm.<\/p>\n David Herd is the Director of the Centre for Modern Poetry in the School of English and both publishes and teaches on the New York poets.
