{"id":1893,"date":"2020-04-17T11:41:50","date_gmt":"2020-04-17T10:41:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/eda-news\/?p=1893"},"modified":"2020-04-17T11:54:44","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T10:54:44","slug":"eda-academics-working-on-intelligent-antenna-technologies-for-6g","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/engineering-news\/2020\/04\/17\/eda-academics-working-on-intelligent-antenna-technologies-for-6g\/","title":{"rendered":"EDA academics working on intelligent antenna technologies for 6G"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;color: black\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/engineering-digital-arts\/people\/670\/gao-steven\">Professor Steven Gao<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/engineering-digital-arts\/people\/730\/sanz-izquierdo-benito\">Dr Benito Sanz<\/a>, from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA) are currently working on intelligent antenna technologies for 6G<span data-offset-key=\"2f66a-6-0\"> which is expected to revolutionise the <\/span><span data-offset-key=\"2f66a-7-0\">telecommunications<\/span><span data-offset-key=\"2f66a-8-0\"> industry and have significant impacts on society.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;color: black\">Although 5G has not been fully implemented, the world is in a race to develop 6G which is expected to be tens to hundreds times more faster than 5G.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;color: black\">6G is expected to employ sub-THz frequency bands, i.e., the frequency from 100 GHz to 300 GHz.\u00a0 Steven and Benito, together with their collaborators, have recently had a paper accepted by IEEE Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology.\u00a0 This paper, entitled &#8220;<em>A D-Band 3D-Printed Antennas<\/em>&#8220;, reported their recent progress on 140-GHz antennas. The work is a result of the EPSRC funded project WISDOM, which is a multi-disciplinary project involving collaboration with Queen&#8217;s University Belfast,\u00a0 the University of Warwick, KU Leuven, Belgium, and TU Graz, Austria.\u00a0 \u00a0Steven Gao was the coordinator and Principal Investigator of the WISDOM project.\u00a0 \u00a0He is also in the 6G Expert Group which is drafting the new version of 6G White Paper to be released to the public later this year.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;color: black\">Steven was elected as a Fellow of the IEEE due to outstanding work on intelligent antennas and comments: &#8220;EDA has an internationally leading research group in antenna technology.
