{"id":1468,"date":"2019-07-19T14:00:11","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T13:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/eda-news\/?p=1468"},"modified":"2019-07-23T10:23:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-23T09:23:27","slug":"congratulations-to-dr-xinggang-yan-and-phd-student-adrian-onyeka-upon-their-best-application-paper-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/engineering-news\/2019\/07\/19\/congratulations-to-dr-xinggang-yan-and-phd-student-adrian-onyeka-upon-their-best-application-paper-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to Dr Xinggang Yan and PhD student Adrian Onyeka upon their Best Application Paper Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dr Xinggang Yan, Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, visited the <a href=\"http:\/\/iao.nuaa.edu.cn\/\">Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics<\/a> (NUAA), China for research and teaching collaboration with Professor Bin Jiang (Vice President of NUAA) and Professor Zehui Mao between 6<sup>th<\/sup> of June and 5<sup>th<\/sup> of July, 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this visit, he attended the 12<sup>th<\/sup> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ascc2019.org\/\">ASian Control Conference<\/a> (ASCC), in Fukuoka, Japan, June 9-12, 2019, and served as the Chair of the Session: Variable-Structure\/Sliding-Mode Control. The paper entitled \u201cReheat Turbine LFC of Power Systems with Multiple Delays Based on Sliding Mode Techniques\u201d, authored by A. Onyeka, X. Yan, Z Mao, D. Zhao and B. Jiang, was received as the Best Application Paper Award. This was a joint collaboration between the University of Kent, NUAA and China University of Petroleum (CUP) and partially sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China. Another paper entitled \u201cOutput Feedback Sliding Mode Control for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors\u201d authored by J. Feng, L. Ma, D Zhao, X Yan and S.K. Spurgeon, was shortlisted for the Best Paper Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ASCC, held once every two years, is a prestigious\ninternational conference within the control area. The ASCC 2019 established\nthree awards with only one paper for each award. The achievements are a great\nhonour, which indicate that Dr Yan\u2019s research team has been recognised\ninternationally, and their research has created great impact in the area of\ncontrol. The collaboration between the University of Kent in UK, and the NUAA\nand CUP in China has produced interesting and significant results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this period, Dr Yan also visited the\nCUP for further research collaboration with Professor Dongya Zhao (Head of\nDepart. of Process Equipment and Control Eng.).
