Professor Nathan Gomes from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts has just presented an invited paper on “Support of multi-antenna and multi-user systems using radio over fiber” at the Asia Communications and Photonics conference (ACP) 2017, in Guangzhou, China. The conference is the largest photonics communications conference in Asia, attracting some 750 attendees. This follows the significant presence of University of Kent photonics research at the IEEE Microwave Photonics Topical Meeting in Beijing, China in October, where Professor Gomes gave an invited workshop presentation on microwave photonics for 5G communications, and where he and Dr Chao Wang, Senior Lecturer in Electronic Systems, each presented two contributed papers covering topics ranging from millimetre-wave radio over fibre, through beam-steered free-space optical communications to optical techniques for compressive sensing of RF signals.
