Research Seminar “Compressed Sensing: From theory to practice”, by Dr Charith Abhayaratne on 22 Nov at 2 pm in SLT2

The next Research Seminar in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts is entitled ‘Compressed Sensing: From theory to practice’ and will be delivered by Dr Charith Abhayaratne from the University of Sheffield on 22nd November at 2 pm in SLT2. Compressed sensing (CS), an efficient data acquisition system, reconstructs a signal from highly
under-sampled measurements by solving an l1-norm minimisation problem.

Dr Charith Abhayaratne received the B.E. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Adelaide, Australia, in 1998, and the PhD degree in electronic and electrical engineering from the University of Bath, U.K., in 2002. He was a recipient of the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics (ERCIM) Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2002-2004) to carry out research at the Centre of Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI), The Netherlands, and the National Research Institute for Computer Science and Control (INRIA), Sophia Antipolis, France. He is currently a Lecturer with the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. He is an expert in computer vision engineering, with particular emphasis on video and image coding, content forensics (watermarking and fingerprinting), image and video content analysis, and content-based approaches for visual content management, security, surveillance, assisted living and remote sensing applications. He is an associated editor for Elsevier Journal of Information Security and Applications (JISA) and the United Kingdom’s Liaison Officer for the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP).Dr Jim Ang will chair this seminar.

All members of staff are welcome to the seminar. RAs and postgraduate students are particularly encouraged to attend the event. For any further enquiries, please feel free to contact Dr Jim Ang at C.S.Ang@kent.ac.uk
