On the 9th April students from EDA will go head-to-head with colleagues from Universite Paris X Nanterre in a robotics challenge. Building on Kent’s first year Engineering project module, where students construct a line-following robot, teams have been working on designing a vehicle to follow a pathway, avoid obstacles and seek short-cuts on a race track. The competition will involve a race against the clock, with Kent and Paris X linked via videoconference.
The initiative headed by Richard Guest, John Batchelor and Kostas Sirlantzis from EDA has been sponsored by the Science Faculty Internationalisation Fund. It is hoped that this pilot event will be the first of a series of activities with closer interaction between French and UK students.
