Following a successful 2nd year student project which developed a sensing device for domestic plants, Dr Luca Marcelli and Dr Jim Ang from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts have obtained £49,386.05 from the EPSRC to carry out research work on supporting data-driven urban agriculture with “Internet of Plants” technology.
One major challenge of this community-driven agriculture is the lack of specialist knowledge in growing food efficiently and safely. Ensuring efficient use of resources requires an ability to know the quantities the crop requires and being able to deliver accurately that requirement, avoiding waste. The project will aim to develop sensor technologies that can support effective urban agriculture.
