Innovation, creativity and enterprise were recognised at the University of Kent’s annual Innovation Awards on Wednesday 23 October 2012. Members of Kent’s business community and representatives of other partner organisations were welcomed by University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow to the event, held at the Canterbury Innovation Centre.
We are delighted to announce that two projects from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA) were amongst the award winners.
The winning project in the Innovation category was the development of an Attendance Monitoring Device using RFID. Chris Barron accepted the award from the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow, on behalf of a collaboration between members of EDA (Chris Barron, Mark Ellis, Winston Waller, Harvey Twyman, Simon Jakes, John Batchelor and Omer Kilic), Information Services and the Academic Division.
Highly Commended in this category was the development of an App for visually impaired visitors to the Turner Contemporary art gallery in Margate by Multimedia, Technology and Design students Meg Maughan and Tomas Kamarauskas under the supervision of Ania Bobrowics and Jane Milton. With the awards are, from left to right, Beatrice Prosser-Snelling (the Schools Officer at Turner Contemporary in Margate), Jane Milton, Sarah Spurgeon (Head of EDA), and Meg Maughan.
