Following the success of the inaugural School of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA) research conference held on the Medway campus in January 2010, a second conference was held on 13th January 2012 in the Woolf Building on the Canterbury campus.
Almost 100 members of EDA staff and postgraduate students attended, along with representatives from Kent Innovation and Enterprise, the School of Computing and the School’s Engineering Industrial Panel.
Delegates were given an update on the activities of each of the four research groups by the research group leader. This was followed by three oral presentations on current work by postgraduate students and staff of each group. There were three repeated poster sessions for the presentation of fifty posters produced by postgraduate students, research fellows and academic staff.
The conference was designed to promote interdisciplinary research and foster internal and external collaborations within the School and beyond, to enhance the transferable and professional skills (communication, presentation and networking skills) of postgraduate researchers and to improve communications and interactions between academic staff, researchers and support staff within the School.
Harshall Oza, a postgraduate student in the area of Control Engineering, found it a very rewarding experience: “The school research conference 2012 was a good experience. It exhibited the diversity of research being carried out in the school. Moreover, it was good to know that all the research laboratories are contributing very good research work while maintaining high standards. I take this opportunity to congratulate the organizing committee for the successful conference.”
