The School of Engineering and Digital Arts is delighted to promote details of Sara Choudhrey’s latest exhibition taking place in London.
Sara, an EDA graduand and currently an Associate Lecturer is exhibiting her artwork at the ‘Here and Beyond’ exhibition from 21st January to 21st April 2019 at the Kensington Town Hall, Civic Reception, Hornton Street, London W8 7NX between the hours of 8.30 am and 7 pm.
Artworks are displayed over three levels including the main staircase. The work spans three series and includes laser engraved geometric woodworks and floral-based paintings which were previously exhibited at the Templeman Library Gallery at the University of Kent.
An established artist, Sara has recently worked closely with members of the North Kensington Community on AYAH-Sign, a collaborative project between FLUX Events and ACAVA (Association for Cultural Advancement through Visual Arts). AYAH-sign sought to establish access to creative practice for those affected by Grenfell Fire through traditional Islamic design. Sara’s passion for merging digital and traditional techniques is evident in her work, which juxtaposes techniques and materials, playing with the effects of light and shadow, textures and form. Drawing on Islamic visual culture from across the globe, this rich and varied practice provides a parallel analogy for hybridity in identity and culture.
Sara has exhibited her work in various cities across the UK including the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh, at Digital Futures in association with the V&A in London and also as part of the Islamic Arts Festival at the Sharjah Art Museum in the UAE. She lectures on the topics of Digital Media, Islamic art and British Arts and Crafts and is currently researching the influence of Islamic art in Spain and Portugal through a Fellowship awarded by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in 2018.
