Vice Chancellor’s Research Scholarships (2 positions available)
The studentship will be administered under the Graduate Teaching Assistant Scheme with the expectation that some teaching will be undertaken. Funding is available at the current home fee rate of £4,195.00 (rate for 2018/19) together with a maintenance grant of £14,777.00 (rate for 2018/19). Students engaged as graduate teaching assistants hold a unique position in the University; they are both registered PhD students in receipt of a scholarship award and employees of the University. Interested students are invited to look at the research projects of each of our Research Groups. Alternatively, you may wish to suggest an appropriate self-selected PhD topic and consult a prospective supervisor for further discussion.

EPSRC Doctoral Training Partnership Studentships (4 positions available)
Funding is available at the current home fee rate of £4,195.00 (rate for 2018/19) together with a maintenance grant of £14,777.00 (rate for 2018/19). For this year’s EPSRC DTP studentships we are inviting applications from candidates interested in undertaking research within our internationally leading research groups:
Communications – research.kent.ac.uk/communications/research-projects
particularly, in the area of microwaves/RF (including antennas and RFID), but also in beyond 5G communications
Instrumentation and Control – research.kent.ac.uk/ic/research-projects
particularly in the area of sensors and instrumentation for renewable energy systems, such as intelligent monitoring of biomass fuel injection
Intelligent Interactions – research.kent.ac.uk/ii/research-projects
particularly, in the areas of the Internet of Things (e.g. for assistive living) and the Tactile Internet (such as VR for mental health interventions), but also smart healthcare technologies.
Applicants are encouraged to examine the research activities of the above groups, and to consult with prospective supervisors. Partnerships with industry are being formed by prospective supervisors and these will be encouraged in the final allocation of studentships.
Criteria
For each studentship, we are looking for an excellent student with a good Honours degree (First or 2i) and, preferably, a Master’s degree at Merit or Distinction in a relevant subject, or equivalent.
Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential.
