Head of School congratulatory message to 2020 applicants

Dear Applicants

Many congratulations upon receiving your exam results today. You have worked extremely hard and adapted fantastically well to constantly changing circumstances.  Every university student is part of a remarkable class that has overcome the unexpected and the extraordinary challenges of the pandemic.

The University of Kent looks forward to welcoming new (and returning students) in the autumn of 2020 and we’ll be open for business when term starts in September.  Clearly, we want to ensure that your experience at Kent is the best it can be, from the moment you arrive on campus.

All summer long, we’ve been working to make sure you can stay safe, study and socialise on campus.  We hope that having a safe environment to live and learn in will help you to enjoy university life. These are challenging times for us all and if at any time you need emotional or mental health support, we’re here for you.

In the meantime, as we transition back to more usual ways of working, we promise you that, as a member of the University of Kent, you will be part of a diverse, dynamic and supportive community and receive an education of the highest possible standard.

My staff and I are very much looking forward to working with you to develop not only your subject specific skills, but also skills and attributes that will exit you optimally prepared to face either more study or the world of work at the end of your undergraduate period with us.

You will be joining a very special School which has the privilege to be located in its own building on what I think is an extraordinarily beautiful campus.  We are small enough to get to know all our students as individuals, which I think is a very important aspect of our provision.

It’s now time to be you.  Time for you to develop your confidence, learn new ways of thinking and challenge your beliefs.  By joining the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, you will become part of a progressive and compassionate community which aims to enrich society and make a difference.

I hope you, your family and friends are all keeping well and look forward to welcoming you in September plus wish you every success in the coming years.

Kind regards

Dr Richard Guest,

Head of the School of Engineering and Digital Arts
