Congratulations to Dr Mahmood Shafiee upon funding from the UK’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund

Congratulations to Dr Mahmood Shafiee from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts upon the award from the UK’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund for a project entitled ‘Robotics and Autonomous Inspection Systems Engineering (RAISE)’.

The Mechanical Engineering group at the University of Kent has put forward a strong agenda to build its identity and reputation as a world leader in “Robotic Maintenance and Autonomous Inspection”. This Industrial Strategy project links to two of the four Grand Challenges, namely, Clean Growth and Future of Mobility. The project aims to develop advanced robotics and autonomous system solutions (underwater, on ground and aerial) to automize complex inspection and maintenance operations in hostile environments and thereby making them less hazardous and a lot easier.

Dr Mahmood Shafiee commented: ‘The project will provide lots of opportunities for collaboration between the University of Kent and other major robotic centres and institutions across the UK and Europe’.
