Dr Xinggang Yan, Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, visited the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), China for research and teaching collaboration with Professor Bin Jiang (Vice President of NUAA) and Professor Zehui Mao between 6th of June and 5th of July, 2019.
During this visit, he attended the 12th ASian Control Conference (ASCC), in Fukuoka, Japan, June 9-12, 2019, and served as the Chair of the Session: Variable-Structure/Sliding-Mode Control. The paper entitled “Reheat Turbine LFC of Power Systems with Multiple Delays Based on Sliding Mode Techniques”, authored by A. Onyeka, X. Yan, Z Mao, D. Zhao and B. Jiang, was received as the Best Application Paper Award. This was a joint collaboration between the University of Kent, NUAA and China University of Petroleum (CUP) and partially sponsored by National Natural Science Foundation of China. Another paper entitled “Output Feedback Sliding Mode Control for Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors” authored by J. Feng, L. Ma, D Zhao, X Yan and S.K. Spurgeon, was shortlisted for the Best Paper Award.
The ASCC, held once every two years, is a prestigious international conference within the control area. The ASCC 2019 established three awards with only one paper for each award. The achievements are a great honour, which indicate that Dr Yan’s research team has been recognised internationally, and their research has created great impact in the area of control. The collaboration between the University of Kent in UK, and the NUAA and CUP in China has produced interesting and significant results.
During this period, Dr Yan also visited the CUP for further research collaboration with Professor Dongya Zhao (Head of Depart. of Process Equipment and Control Eng.). He was also invited to give presentations in Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and Changsha University in China.
