The School of Engineering and Digital Arts has won the Workplace of the Year award at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (THELMAs).
The Times Higher said the School was selected ‘for its staff development programme and social activities’ that focused on its Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity initiatives, which have helped forge close bonds between both academic and professional services staff.
The work centred on the creation of a bespoke EDI participatory calendar focused on the theme of identity, culture and celebration to recognise numerous important issues and events such as International Women’s Day, LGBT History Month, Chinese New Year and Mental Health Awareness.
The School also cited its success in the University’s inter-departmental sporting competition as a means to bring together different staff from across the School to win the event in both 2016 and 2017. Overall, this inclusive, friendly atmosphere has helped attract new staff and nurture talent for future career progression.
The award is the second time that EDA has been successful at the THELMAs, after winning the Outstanding Departmental Administration Team in 2016.
