Research Seminar – Enabling a Big Living Network: Internet of Everything – Thursday 22nd March at 1 pm in KLT6

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts’ next Research Seminar entitled ‘Enabling a Big Living Network: Internet of Everything’ will take place on Thursday 22nd March at 1 pm in KLT6 and will be delivered by Dr Onur Sahin of InterDigital Europe.

With a commercial deployment target as early as 2020, the general framework of fifth-generation (5G) technology and a vast range of use-cases have already started to take shape. Accordingly, the presentation will explore some details of this framework primarily from the research and development and standardization perspectives.

Dr Onur Sahin received his Batchelor of Science degree (hons) in electrical and electronics engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2003 and his MSc (summa cum laude) and PhD. degrees in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, USA, in 2005 and 2009, respectively. He is currently a Senior Staff Engineer (Technical Manager) at Innovation Labs, InterDigital Europe and chairman of Industry Advisory Board at King’s College London. His primary research and development areas are on next generation telecommunication and wireless systems (including 5G and beyond) with particular emphasis on PHY/MAC layer technologies, network information theory, and network and internet architectures with upper layer protocol design. Dr. Sahin has held technical lead positions at multiple projects on the development of next generation cellular and Wi-Fi systems including 5G NR, LTE-A and IEEE 802.11 standards. He currently leads Beyond-5G ultra-high throughput (Tbps/THz) wireless communication technology design and development at InterDigital. Dr. Sahin is the co-author of over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles (1000+ citations, h-index:13), co-inventor of 25 patents and patent applications, and serves as a Guest Editor for Journal of Communication Networks. He is the recipient of 2012 and 2015 InterDigital Innovation Awards and 2016 Journal of Communication Networks Best Paper Award.

All members of staff are welcome to the seminar. RAs, postgraduate and interested undergraduate students are particularly encouraged to attend the event. The seminar will be chaired by Professor Erol Hepsaydir and enquiries concerning the event should be Erol.Hepsaydir@three.co.uk
