On 11th January 2018, the School of Engineering and Digital Arts delivered their biennial School Research Conference in the brand new Sibson Building on the Canterbury campus. This is the fifth conference organized by the School as a very popular, multi-disciplinary and celebratory event.
Almost 110 members of EDA staff and postgraduate students attended, along with representatives from Kent Innovation and Enterprise, Research Services, and the Faculty of Sciences. The conference provided all attendees with an excellent opportunity to network whilst learning more about the wide range of research conducted at the School of Engineering and Digital Arts.
The conference hosted three oral presentation sessions focused on current research being conducted by academic staff and postgraduate students from the three research groups. There were also two separate poster sessions for the presentation of 67 posters covering a wide range of topics.
The conference was designed to promote interdisciplinary research and foster internal and external collaborations within the School and beyond, to enhance the transferable and professional skills (communication, presentation and networking skills) of postgraduate researchers and to improve communications and interactions between academic staff, researchers and support staff within the School.
The conference was well received by the attendees. One attendee commented that “The conference was a great way to get the whole school together. I enjoyed hearing about the research from all areas of the school. It is a good way of having all PhD students and staff together in one place.”
