Congratulations to Xinggang, co-author of ‘Variable-Structure Control of Complex Systems’

Congratulations to Dr Xinggang Yan, Senior Lecturer in Control Engineering in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, upon the publication of a new book entitled ‘Variable-Structure Control of Complex Systems’ who co-authored the publication together with Professor Sarah Spurgeon from University College London and Professor Christopher Edwards from the University of Exeter.

The book systematizes the authors’ recent research achievement on variable-structure control. It provides rigorous theoretical solution to the problem of control of complex systems but has potential applications in practical systems. It is self-contained, presenting necessary mathematical preliminaries with many case studies so that the theoretical developments can be easily understood by a broad readership. The book addresses systems with nonlinearities, time delays and interconnections and considers issues such as stabilization, observer design, and fault detection and isolation. It makes extensive use of numerical and practical examples to render its ideas more readily absorbed.

The publication forms part of the Communications and Control Engineering series publishing research in control and systems theory, control engineering and communications.
