Celebrating degree and prize giving day – November 2016

Congratulations to all our MSc and PhD students who graduated in Canterbury Cathedral on Friday 18th November. This was followed by a Reception and Prize Giving in the School where families, friends and staff celebrated their success. Prizes including some undergraduate prizes were awarded as follows:

The Morpho UK Ltd Prize was awarded by Professor J Wang, Head of School, to Mr Muhannad Salem M Alotaibi (in absentia) for Excellence in Biometrics on the MSc Information Security and Biometrics programme, and collected by Miss Moyra Chikomo, Electronic Engineering PhD candidate in EDA.

The Rohde & Schwarz Project Prize was awarded by Professor J Wang, Head of School, to Mr Turki Alharbi (in absentia) for best project on a Wireless/RF related topic on the MSc Broadband & Mobile Communication Networks programme and collected by Mr Fihan Majed Alotaibi.

The IEEE UK&RI Telecommunications Prize was awarded by Professor J Wang, Head of School, to Mr Turki Alharbi (in absentia) for best MSc student/project in the telecommunications field, and collected by Mr Fihan Majed Alotaibi.

The Procon Engineering Project Prize was awarded by Mr Mark Hopkins of Procon Engineering to Mr Yankun Yang, for the best project on the Embedded Systems and Instrumentation MSc.

The BAE Systems Prize was awarded by Mr Nyasha Japondo, Hardware Engineer and Campus Manager of BAE Systems, to Mr Joaquim Guilera Recoder for best overall MSc engineering project.

The Foundry Prize was awarded by Mr David Byers Brown, Senior Lecturer, to Mr Omeiver Jose Gamez Rodrigues for excellence in compositing on the MSc Computer Animation and MSc Digital Visual Effects programmes.

Additionally, some undergraduate prizes were also conferred as follows:

The Rapid Electronics Prize – 1st Year Robotics Competition was awarded by Mr Paul Barran, Business Development Manager, Rapid Electronics, to James Lewis-Cheetham (1st prize), Jihad Dib (2nd prize) and Luca Gelosi and Fatima Butt (joint 3rd prize), and to Jihad Dib (Judges Award for imaginative software and hardware design)

The Rapid Electronics Undergraduate 2nd year Group Project Prize was awarded by Mr Paul Barran, Rapid Electronics, to Casra Aghassi, Alex Brown, Oghenerukome Uriri and Harshini Utchanah (joint first prize), and to Nwamak Chugbo, Bruce Curry, Elvis Gumbo and Thomas Taylor (joint 2nd prize).

The Rapid Electronics Cross Channel Robot Competition Prize for fastest robots in the France versus UK Competition was awarded by Mr Paul Barran, Rapid Electronics, to Fatima Butt (1st prize), Martin Barnett (2nd prize) and James Lewis-Cheetham (3rd prize).

The IET Award for Best Overall Design and Performance – 1st Year Robotics Competition was awarded by Professor J Wang, Head of School, to Jihad Dib (1st prize), Fatima Butt (2nd prize), and James Lewis-Cheetham (3rd prize)
