Research Seminar – ‘Neural Information Technique at Northwestern Polytechnic University’ – 10 October at 11.30 am in KBSX3

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts’ next Research Seminar entitled ”Neural Information Technique at Northwestern Polytechnic University’ will take place on Monday 10th October from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm in KBSX3 and will be delivered by Professor Songyun Xie of Northwestern Polytechnic, China. All members of staff are welcome to attend the Seminar which will be chaired by Professor Marc Cavazza.

The Seminar will introduce work on Neural Information and Image Processing, mainly on BCI and Selective Attention and will include the following three parts:

1. New Concepts and Method of Flight Control

2. Driver Condition Monitoring Technique

3. Radar/Infrared Image Processing and Moving Target Tracking

Songyun Xie is a Professor and a PhD student supervisor in the School of Electronics and Information at Northwestern Polytechnic University, China. She obtained her PhD degree from Northwestern Polytechnical University and then undertook postdoctoral study at Technical University of Berlin, Germany, 2002-2003. She is the Head of Biomedical Engineering Discipline and set up the NPU-TUB Joint Laboratory for Neural Informatics, which is part of the Key Laboratory of Chinese Ministry of Education. She is a committee member of biomedical engineering laboratory in The Fourth Military Medical University, a council member of academy for medical neural engineering belong to Chinese biomedical engineering, the vice president of Shanxi branch of China Medical Informatics Association (CMIA), a Senior member of International Symposium on Neural Networks (ISNN), a invited reviewer of IEEE International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN), a Senior member of China Association for System Simulation (CASS), among other activities.

She teaches the Master courses ‘Method and Application of Machine Learning’ and ‘Bio-informatics and Bio-Image Processing’, and is responsible for the excellent open courses ‘Analog Electronic Technology’ and ‘Digital Circuits and Digital Electronic Technology’ of Shaanxi Province.
