Congratulations to Gianluca Marcelli who has been successful in obtaining funding from the EPSRC (in collaboration with the University of Exeter and King’s College, London) for a project entitled ‘Red Cell Physical Properties in Health and Disease’.
The project aims to develop new experimental methodologies to analyse quantitatively the physical properties of the human red blood cell on the basis of novel computational models. It is expected that this study will contribute to the understanding of the origin of membrane elasticity in red blood cells, how it is changed in disease and how it can affect biochemical signalling pathways, as well as suggesting new therapeutic targets and approaches.
