Farzin chairs European Association for Biometrics (EAB) events

Dr Farzin Deravi from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts will chair two European Association for Biometrics (EAB) events this month.

The first event, taking place on 24th October is entitled ‘Biometrics in Banking – A New Era of Enabling Service and Security’ and will take place at Citibank, Canada Square, London. The event is particularly relevant to EDA since it shares many themes with our Engineering with Finance MSc programme. Biometrics in Banking will familarize attendees with biometric methods and applications by providing guidance on how biometrics can support the optimization of the following key aspects of the banking process:

Customer Interaction
Operational Efficiency
Fraud Reduction and Prevention

The second event takes place on 27th October and is entitled ‘Preserving Privacy in an Age of Increased Surveillance – A Biometrics Perspective’ and will take place at IBM SouthBank, London. This workshop will focus on privacy issues surrounding biometric technologies and applications helping to understand key concerns and trends, including:

Impact of biometrics on privacy
Privacy protection technologies
Gaps in knowledge and practice

The EAB is a non-profit organization seeking to advance the proper and beneficial use of biometrics in Europe, taking into account the interests of European citizens, industries, academia and governments.
