Pupils enjoyed a presentation by Professor Mohamed Sobhy on ‘Chaos in Physical Systems’ and participated in specific activities including: a hands-on experiment to program a circuit which controls traffic lights, a demonstration of how RFID tags can assist those with disabilities, and a demonstration of antenna characterisation and signal transmission. In addition, pupils visited the Chemistry, Physics and Forensic Science Laboratories where a number of ground-breaking technology research is currently taking place. The event concluded with a lecture by Professor Bob Newport on ‘Glass: A Physics Look inside’
Feedback from St Edmund’s has been extremely encouraging as Jennifer Pierce, Senior School Librarian, commented: ‘The staff and pupils were so impressed by the hard work and planning that had gone into the afternoon and the range of workshops and tours offered was fantastic. You and all of your team made us feel so welcome and the whole afternoon was extremely well organised. Thanks for an interesting trip – I hope it has influenced our students to consider courses and academic pathways which they had, until now, perhaps not been able to get a real feel for.’
