Engineering students forge links with Google

A representative from Google visited students from the University’s School of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA) on Monday 2 December to talk about his career in software engineering.

Hosted by the School’s student-led Engineering Society, the visit welcomed Jon Skeet, a software engineer based in Google’s HQ, to discuss his career with current students and his aims to inspire and motivate software engineers of the future.

Josh Robertson, Vice President of the Engineering Society and a PhD student in EDA, said: ‘It was a fantastic opportunity to learn from Jon about his experience as a software engineer and his time with Google. Students were given the opportunity to engage in a programming tutorial and learn from a man who has taken opportunities to keep ahead of the game when it comes to employability. The afternoon lecture was brimming with students who were asking questions and looking to learn about interview techniques, the application process and what Google is actually like to work for.’
