EDA’s final year students “Meet the Employers” as part of Employability Week 2013

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts held its biggest ever Employability and Careers Fair on Monday 4th November 2013 in the Jennison Building for all its final year engineering (including MEng) and digital media students. Although graduation may seem like a long way away, it’s never too early to develop the skills that employers are looking for.

With intense competition facing graduate job-seekers, the event was a great opportunity for students to gain an insight into graduate careers and explore work experience and internship opportunities from a wide range of organisations in order to maximise their chances of success. The event also provided students with a unique opportunity to meet informally with potential future employers and is the only university careers event entirely dedicated to the engineering and digital media communities.

Presentations covered options for further study on all of the Schools’ Masters programmes, research and funding opportunities as well as valuable presentations on cv checks, tips on writing job applications, career choices, searching for vacancies, and employability which included input from the Careers and Employability Service. The School also welcomed back former students who now work for top engineering firms in the UK who were able to impart their knowledge and experience to final year students. Exhibiting companies were on hand to offer expert advice to students and demonstrate their technologies and advertise graduate opportunities.

It is widely felt that the EDA Employability and Careers Day offers an excellent service to students, with great engagement from employers and informative presentations. This year, we were pleased to welcome participating companies and agencies plus returning alumni from Agusta Westland, BAE Systems, Cummins, Delphi, EDF Energy, GE Aviation, GForces, Holiday Extras, RDDS Avionics, Roke Manor, Royal Navy, Thales, and The IET.
