EDA Alum, Liam Russell of Framestore, communicates computer-generated wizardry

On Wednesday 23rd October 2013, Mr Liam Russell, University of Kent Alum from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts, (MSc Computer Animation 2006-2007) returned as a guest presenter to impart expertise and tips on computer animation via a workshop and lecture to our Digital Arts MSc students.

Liam, who has worked for Framestore since 2007 is currently an animation director with specialties in Character, Creature and Technical Animation. Liam has recently worked on the animation sequence lead for sci-fi thriller ‘Gravity’ starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, was character animator on ’47 Ronin’ and ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ and lead creature animator for the forthcoming fantasy, ‘Winter’s Tale’, featuring Will Smith, Jennifer Connelly, Russell Crowe and Colin Farrell, which will be released in 2014.

EDA’s Computer Animation programme was originally set up in collaboration with Framestore CFC, which is the largest visual effects and computer animation company in Europe. The company has won numerous awards and offers computer generated imagery solutions for both film and broadcast markets. The company was founded in 1986 and it currently has offices in London, New York, Los Angeles and Montreal.

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts MSc Computer Animation programme is entirely oriented towards current industrial needs, technology and practice. It aims to be a direct route into the very desirable and high profile modern creative industry, equipping students with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding of 3D Computer Animation.
