EDA Alum, He Sun, imparts visual effects and compositing skills

On Tuesday 1st October, Mr He Sun , University of Kent Alum from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts (MSc Digital Visual Effects 2007-2008) returned as a guest lecturer to impart expertise and tips to our students on creating a photo real digital matte painting, utilising the Nuke compositing programme.

He Sun currently works for Jagex as a visual effects supervisor and runs a team responsible for producing fire and smoke effects, and environmental lighting for real time rendering in games design.

Jagex Games Studio, based in Cambridge, is the UK’s largest independent developer and publisher of online games and is best known for ‘RuneScape’, the world’s largest free-to-play MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) – a genre of role-playing video games in which a very large number of players interact with one another within a virtual game world. The company’s name comes from its original slogan, ‘Java Gaming Experts’. Jagex has over 500 employees who provide content development, employee management, and customer support in house

In addition to ‘RuneScape’, Jagex are produce the hugely popular ‘Transformers Universe’ and ‘War of Legends’ games.

EDA’s MSc in Digital Visual Effects equips students with the necessary industry skills orienting towards technical director roles, creature development, lighting effects, compositors, digital paint and roto roles, modellers and trackers/matchmovers, 3D generalist, 3D artist, effects artist or compositor.
