Anthony led initial analysis of appliance-level energy consumption data collected from over 75 homes. Anthony explored data and was able to reveal a range of insights into the use of domestic appliances, and the costs associated with that use. Anthony’s analysis produced useful insights into consumers’ use of the new energy sensors themselves and how the design of the sensors affects that behaviour. As a result, the Institute is now able to understand the barriers that a vendor such as EON will face when trying to extract long-term consumption data from real homes, when consumers are acting as real people rather than research subjects.
Anthony thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to work with energy researchers and EON energy and would like to thank his supervisor, Dr Jim Ang, for bringing the opportunity to his attention.
