On Friday 17th May, James Rustad, University of Kent Alum from the School of Engineering and Digital Arts (MSc Digital Visual Effects 2008-09) returned as a guest lecturer to impart expertise and tips to our students on producing professional simulations, for example, magical effects, as seen in the Harry Potter movies. In the recent award-winning Bond film “Skyfall”, James completed destruction work involving a helicopter crash and in “Wrath of the Titans” he produced various volcanic, lava effects and destruction work.
Since graduating from Kent, James has worked for The Moving Picture Company in London firstly in the technical animation department to create cloth, fur and skin deformation effects and more recently as an FX Director Director working with Maya to create a range of visual effects including destruction, fire, water, weather and magic. James’ specialist skills include Maya simulation, – Particles, Fluids, Destruction and MEL Scripting.
The Moving Picture Company has been one of the global leaders in VFX for over 25 years and counting, with industry-leading facilities in London, Vancouver, Los Angeles, New York and Bangalore and is renowned for adding visual wonder and creative expertise to the advertising, film and entertainment industries.
