Launch of the Brain Injury Manifesto

Dr Mohamed Sakel, Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the School of Engineering and Digital Arts and Head of the East Kent Neuro-Rehabilitation Unit of the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust (EKHUFT), represented the NHS (Kent and Medway) at the launch of the Brain Injury Manifesto at the House of Lords hosted by Lord Walton on 18th July 2012. This event was aimed at increasing parliamentary awareness and incentives for service reconfiguration through investment from the UK Government towards neuro-rehabilitation for people with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Further information on TBI can be found at http://www.ukabif.org.uk/.
Building on innovative work already undertaken between EDA and EKHUFT on Detection and Monitoring of Emotional States using Brain Computer Interfaces and Facial Gestures for Accessing Assistive Technologies, further collaborative studies are planned in the area of TBI which clinicians could in the near future translate into effective patient care.
