At the Green Impact Awards Ceremony on 26th April 2012, the School of Engineering and Digital Arts again achieved a Silver Standard award, demonstrating its commitment to reducing its environmental impact, both by implementing practical solutions and by making its staff and students more aware of how this can be achieved. The School has been participating in the Green Impact Scheme, an environmentally aware scheme with the aim of empowering individuals and departments to reduce their environmental impact by encouraging, rewarding and celebrating practical environmental improvements, since it was championed by the University in October 2009.
The School was also successful in the Best Energy Saving category for the second time. The programme initiated by its IT Team to virtualise many of the services that currently run on physical servers in its data centre in order to reduce the total number of physical servers required, thus leading to reduced power consumption, was judged to be the Best Energy Saving Idea.
