More than 150 secondary school pupils sampled special effects and animation at
XtremeMedia ’11, two days of workshops on the production and creation of digital media, run by the School of Engineering and Digital Arts (EDA).
The 3D Animation with 3DSMax workshop focused on basic processes used to create 3D models and animations in films such as The Chronicles of Narnia and Walking with Dinosaurs. The Special Effects with Adobe After Effects workshop guided pupils through basic processes for creating spectacular images in film and television motion graphics. Pupils were taught how to add shadows, smoke and other stunning effects and finished by making their own film footage to take home.
XtremeMedia ’11 also included a showcase of the best films from EDA’s Master’s degrees in Computer Animation and Digital Visual Effects, and examples of outstanding work from the University’s Multimedia Technology and Design degree programme.
