Research Seminar – Biosignal Analysis of the Electrocardiogram (ECG) and Intracardiac Bioelectric Signals – 11th July 2011

Professor Olaf Doessel from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Karlsruhe of Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany will give a research seminar on 11th July 2011 at 11 am -12 noon in the Jennison Lecture Theatre.
The seminar will consist of two parts. Part 1 will demonstrate new methods to annotate the ECG and to find specific events (e.g. Extrasystoles) in 24h ECG recordings. The dynamics of the QT-interval will be analysed but also small changes in the morphology of the T-wave will be identified. Part 2 will concentrate on electric signals measured during catheter interventions. Depolarization waves passing under a circular multielectrode catheter are analysed with respect to the direction of the wavefront and the conduction velocity. Also diagnostic features of Complex Fractionated Atrial Electrograms (CFAEs) are extracted automatically and a classification scheme for CFAEs is proposed.
